Folk Art Connections: Bringing you closer to the artists
Lectures, Films, Workshops, Pop-ups, and More!
Folk art is a window through which we see communities and individual makers of all sorts, from all cultures, expressing a wide range of identities and beliefs. IFAM provides a place for all of us to gather, learn, celebrate our shared humanity, and appreciate what brings us together.
Folk Art Connections aims to provide the Market experience throughout the year with immersive, hands-on opportunities that invite audiences to interact with the artists, their lives, and the profound cultural influences that shape IFAM and inspire the creation of folk art from around the world.

The International Folk Art Market invites you to a three-day holiday event featuring embroidery workshops and a pop-up sale with Hilos y Colores, a renowned artisan collective from the highlands of Ayacucho, Peru. With deep roots in their culture, Hilos y Colores supports over 800 women weavers and helps uplift their communities through the art of weaving and embroidery. You’ll create a unique holiday gift and learn the rich stories behind these time-honored traditions.
The International Folk Art Market invites you to a rare and immersive experience: a hands-on quilting workshop and pop-up sale led by renowned textile historian and curator Anitha N. Reddy, who participated at IFAM 2024 for the first time. In this three-hour session, participants will explore the art of Siddi Kawandi quilting, a vibrant and deeply rooted tradition from Karnataka, India.
But this is more than a quilting class. It’s an act of unlearning—an opportunity to set aside rigid stitching techniques and embrace intuitive, slow stitching guided by instinct and tradition.
